What is colour temperature?
The colour temperature refers to the appearance of the light emitted by a light source. This is measured in degrees Kelvin (K) on a scale from 1000 to 12000. The higher the number of Kelvin, the whiter the light will appear.
What is the difference between cool white and warm white?
Temperatures from 2000 to 3000 K are referred to as “warm colours” as they emit a pleasant yellow or orange glow. In contrast, a “cool white” colour temperature (3300-5300 K) will appear in a refreshing whitish tint. Temperatures above 5300 K are defined as “daylight” as this colour tone (blue-white) perfectly mimics the natural daylight.
Why is colour temperature important?
In lighting design or simply when choosing a new light bulb, it is important to take into account the colour temperature. The choice of the light will influence the overall ambience and mood. Warm temperatures are recommended for promoting a cosy, intimate and relaxing atmosphere in homes, restaurants, bars or hotels.
